What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery It's a surgery used to treat several diseases, injuries and defects in the neck, head, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (face and jaws) region. It's a surgical specialty which is internationally recognized. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is a specialist who treats the entire craniomaxillofacial complex which is the anatomical area of the jaws, mouth, face, skull as well as associated structures. Depending upon the jurisdiction, maxillofacial surgeons might require training in dentistry, surgery and general medicine, training and qualification in medicine might be undertaken optionally if not required.
